Alfred E. Benson, Jr.

Alfred E. Benson, Jr., age 76, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, at his residence in Canton, after a courageous battle with lung cancer and many severe illnesses. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Alfred E. Benson, Sr., and Claire M. (Gilligan) Benson. He was preceded in death by his husband and life partner of 36 years, John E. “Jack” DeCamillis. Raised and educated in Stoughton, he was a longtime resident of the town before moving to Jasper, Georgia where he settled and made a life with Jack as the place they called home, becoming part of the community that they loved so much. Al loved his four-legged children and traveling with the love of his life, Jack. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Al is survived by his children Jennifer E. Galeotos and her husband Jim of Canton, and Josiah “Josh” Benson and his wife Amanda of Georgia. He was the brother to Claire Davis and her husband Richard of Mansfield, Michael Benson and his wife Laurie of Rockland, Mark Benson of Minnesota and the late Colleen Benson. Al leaves behind his grandchildren, Gabriel and Galen Galeotos, as well as many nieces and nephews.
