Alice Louise (Dowling) Griffin

Alice Louise (Dowling) Griffin, age 99, passed away on February 4, 2023 at AccentCare Hospice Center in Milton. Born in Boston, she was the daughter to the late Alice (Lyons) and Francis E. Dowling, and was raised in Brighton and Watertown, attending Brighton High School, graduating Class of 1940, and was a graduate of Framingham State, Class of 1944. She was predeceased by her husband Walter T. Griffin, who passed away in 1987. She was a longtime resident of Stoughton for over 45 years, and worked as a School Teacher for the town of Stoughton, Norwood, Brockton, and Watertown Public Schools for 25 years before retiring at age 54. She enjoyed sewing, decorating her home, traveling and loved flowers, and especially spending time with her family.

Alice is survived by her children Thomas M. Griffin and his wife Susan of Taunton, Julie A. Griffin of Waltham, David R. Griffin and his wife Maryellen of Cumberland, RI, and Gerald P. Griffin of Stoughton. She leaves behind her sister Eleanor Stammen of Norwell, and was preceded in death by her siblings William and Elizabeth Dowling, and is also survived by her grandchildren Christopher Griffin of Providence, RI and Daniel Griffin of Taunton, as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her good friend Dot Panico.

Funeral Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alice’s memory may be made to Catholic Charities of Boston, 272 W. Broadway, Boston, MA 02127.
