Amaro dos Reis Cabral

Amaro dos Reis Cabral, 83, died Sunday, January 8, 2023, at his home in Stoughton after a long period of declining health. He was the husband of 53 years of Maria dos Anjos (Reis) Cabral. Born in Vila do Porto on the island of Santa Maria in the Azores of Portugal, he was raised and educated on Santa Maria. He served in the Portuguese Army for several years, including time in Angola. In 1969, Amaro and his wife Maria came to the United States and settled in Stoughton where they raised their family. He worked as a cook at the Stoughton Diner for over 15 years and later worked as an Ice Cream Maker for Crescent Ridge Dairy in Sharon for over 22 years, retiring in 2004. He was a skilled handyman who loved fishing, tending to his grape vines, making wine and tasting it. He was well known for his quick whit and sly sense of humor. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Society of the Azores in Bridgewater. Amaro enjoyed his trips back to Santa Maria to spend time with his family at his favorite place, the Anjos. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering around his house and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Maria, he is survived by his three sons; Amaro “Mario” Cabral and his wife Susan Rego Cabral of E. Taunton, Arnold Cabral and his partner Rebecca Dorsky of Raynham and Anthony Cabral and his wife Taryn O’Malley Cabral of Stoughton. He was the father of the late Maria Fatima Cabral.  Amaro was the grandfather of Sofia Cabral, Xavier Cabral, Alexandra Cabral and Connor Cabral. He was the brother of Helena dos Reis Cabral and Antonio Manuel Sousa Cabral, both of Portugal and the late Jose do Carmo Cabral and Joao Sousa Cabral. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
