Augusto "Gus" Neves Leitao, 94, a resident of Marstons Mills, MA, passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA on Friday, September 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Gus has reunited with his beloved late wife Elisa (Vieira) Leitao. Gus cherished the 65 years he shared with Elisa and the beautiful family they built together.

Son of the late Henrique and Amelia (Gamboa) Leitao, Gus was born and raised in Brava, Cabo Verde before coming to the United States in 1954.

After marrying Elisa in 1955, the two went on to raise their sons, Carlos and Henry. They lived in Dorchester and Mattapan before settling in Stoughton from 1973 to 2015. Gus took great pride in his work and loved the 40 years he spent as a Sheet Metal Mechanic Supervisor at Eastern Steel Rack Company. He also served as President of the Ideal Club where he and Elisa would spend time dancing and socializing with family and friends.

In 1992, Gus and Elisa made Martons Mills their summer home, where the “Cape House” became a gathering place for the entire family, especially their grandchildren, who grew up spending their summers with “Nana and Papa.” Papa enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar, and working with his hands while Elisa gardened and cooked homemade meals.

In recent years, Gus resided at the Cape House, where he could often be found in the backyard working on various projects, including building whirlybirds, birdhouses, and, up until just a few days before his passing, a fence. He could fix just about anything and had every imaginable tool, including the many he invented.

Gus was always looking forward to the next grandchild who would walk through the front door. He was happiest while playing cards with friends, tending the bonfire, and enjoying a family meal on the back deck. He lived every day to the fullest and taught his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren kindness, patience, hard work, and the value of friendship.

Gus is survived by his sons, Carlos V. Leitao and his wife Pamela of Cotuit, and Henry V. Leitao and his wife Sandra of Hanover. He was the grandfather to Charles and his wife Meghan, Ann Marie and her husband Brandon, Alison, Abigail and Ainslie and the great-grandfather to Molly, Grace and Jack Leitao and Maelyn Fischer.

In addition to Elisa, Gus is predeceased by his brother Oliveiro Leitao, sister Benvinda Tavares, and daughter-in law, Anita Leitao.

Visiting Hours will be held at Farley Funeral Home (358 Park St, Stoughton, MA 02072) on Wednesday, September 23 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 24 at St. James Church, 560 Page St, Stoughton, MA 02072 at 10:30 AM followed by the burial at Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High St, Canton, MA 02021.
