Barbara L. (Butler) James, 85, a longtime resident of Brockton, died peacefully at Baypointe Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton on Monday, October 19, 2020. Daughter of the late Ernest and Alice L. (Galloway) Butler, she was born and raised in Roxbury and graduated from Boston schools. She resided in Brockton since 1970. Barbara was a manager at New England Telephone, where she worked for 40 years, retiring many years ago. She was an active member of the Grace Church in Avon, serving in their Life Group. She enjoyed writing poetry and seafood, especially lobster, but her greatest joy was hugging and loving her family.
Barbara was the sister of the late Ernest Butler, Jr., James C. Butler and Ronald O. Butler. She is survived by her Aunt Miriam Young of Dorchester, Brenda Butler (Sister-in-law) of Georgia, April Butler (Niece) of Brockton, Robert Jones (Cousin) of Rehoboth, Jason Butler (Nephew) of Florida, Jonathan Butler and Jeffrey Butler (Nephews) both of North Carolina, Brian Dupree and Maurice Dupree (Nephews) both of Lowell, Aaron Butler (Nephew) of Springfield, Ben Butler (Nephew) of Brockton, Karin Butler (Niece) of Georgia and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be held in the Grace Church, 101 Wales Avenue, Avon on Thursday, October 22 at 11:30 AM. Visitation prior from 10:30-11:30 AM. Burial will be private.
