Barbara Ann (Cronin) Ostis

Barbara Ann (Cronin) Ostis, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024. She was the wife to Harley Ostis for 60 loving years. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Kathleen (Linnane) Cronin. She was born and raised in Roxbury, where she attended St. Patrick's Catholic School, still donating to them to this day. She was a longtime resident of Stoughton for 55 years, living in the same home where she raised her children and started her family on Rogers Drive. She worked as a hairdresser in her younger years and would always help elderly neighbors or friends by doing their hair at her home. She also worked as a bus driver for several years, driving special needs children out of Stoughton, and enjoyed being able to provide for those families who were in need. Her longest job was at Maxie’s Deli at Cobbs Corner in Stoughton, where she was a waitress for over 30 years. She made many close friends within the community and took pride in the relationships she formed throughout the years within her work. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing blackjack, taking trips to Vegas with her dear husband, and playing bingo. Where there was a game of bingo – you could find her there. She loved to cook for her family and host gatherings at her home, especially Thanksgiving, where there would be 30 people or more around the table. She was an avid animal lover, and loved to feed the birds and squirrels daily - they waited for her every morning. She was truly one of a kind, and a gem to those around her – her essence shining through in every act of kindness and love she demonstrated. She was a mother figure to many, and a sincere mentor to her family and friends. Every person or stray animal went through the doors to Rogers Drive at the Ostis household. Her family was her greatest, and deepest passion, and she was profoundly and undeniably a devoted wife, mother and “YaYa” to her grandchildren, and will be missed by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her daughters Stephanie McGowan and her husband James of Foxboro, and Stacy Ostis and her late husband David of Foxboro. She was the “YaYa” to Annabella, Ryanne, Harley, and Chloe. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Kay McDermott, Margaret Depascale, and Mary, Francis, Edward, Robert, Thomas, Joseph, and John Cronin. She was the sister-in-law of Sabino Depascale, Maureen Cronin, Evelyn Ostis and the late Claire Cronin, John, Gloria, and Sotirios Ostis, and Peter Ostoposides. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
