Caetano Freitas Serpa, 79, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria L. (Amaral) Branco Serpa. Born and raised in Faja Grande, on the island of Flores in the Azores, Portugal, son of the late Manuel and Ana (Freitas) Serpa, Caetano came to the United States in 1971 and settled in Stoughton. He worked as a custodian for the Stoughton Public Schools for 30 years before retiring at age 65. Caetano was a member of Club Luis de Camoes in Stoughton and enjoyed gardening and rooting for his favorite soccer team, Sporting CP. His greatest joys were spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Maria, Caetano is survived by his stepchildren, Michael Branco and his wife Ann Marie of Hanover and Melanie Branco Yates and her husband Daniel of Foxboro as well as his grandchildren, Sofia Branco, Jake Branco, Cole Branco, Hailey Yates and Tyler Yates. He was the brother of Vitoria Lourenco and her late husband Francisco, and Jose Serpa both of Stoughton, Afonso Serpa and Celestino Serpa both of Flores and the late Luis Serpa. He was the uncle of Dr. Ana P. Lourenco and her children Zachary and Ryan Tubbs of Foxboro and is also survived by many other nieces and nephews in Portugal.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, July 6, 2026 from 9:30-10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Caetano’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 320 Nevada St, Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460 or www.alz.org/manh.
