Carleton J. Washburn

Emblem

Carl J. Washburn, age 86, passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Stoughton on August 14, 2025. He was the dear husband to Suzanne (DePaul) Washburn for 60 loving years, meeting as high school sweethearts and getting married in 1965. Carl and his wife Suzanne were lifelong residents of Stoughton where they raised their children and made a life together. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late George Washburn and Julia (Ruby) Washburn, and was raised and educated in Stoughton, graduating from Stoughton High School, Class of 1957. He enlisted in the Army at age 19 and spent most of his time in Germany, was also a part of the 317th Battalion and the 82nd Airborne and was a proud veteran. He worked at Consolidated Freightways out of Stoughton for over 20 years as a terminal manager before retiring in 2001. Even after retirement, Carl was always active in his life keeping up with his health, fitness and longevity. He enjoyed reading, spending time in his yard tinkering around, splitting wood, traveling with his wife to the Caribbean and Disney World, going to Foxwoods, and enjoyed his Corvettes. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and Grampy, and loved his family more than anything.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Beth Roderick and her husband Jeff of Stoughton and Gregg Washburn and his wife Rosemary of Franklin. He was the Grampy to Justin and Brooke Roderick and Alexander and Julia Washburn. He was preceded in death by his brother James Washburn, and leaves behind a niece, nephew and cousins.

Family services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://donorservices.alz.org/
