Carmen M. (Mastrocola) McNamara

Carmen M. (Mastrocola) McNamara, 84, a longtime resident of Stoughton, passed away peacefully at Benchmark Senior Living at Forge Hill in Franklin on June 18, 2026. She was the wife of the late Charles H. McNamara Jr. for 60 years before his passing this past November. She was born in Everett, daughter of the late Louis and Angelina M. (D’Amato) Mastrocola. Carmen graduated from Stoughton High School, Class of 1959, and she continued her education at Boston College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1963.

After raising four children, Carmen returned to nursing, working for many years as a case manager at Goddard Hospital in Stoughton. She later joined the Stoughton Visiting Nurse Association. Carmen also contributed behind the scenes at McNamara farms, answering phones, assisting with bookkeeping, and even chasing after wayward cows or goats. She maintained a large garden, canned tomatoes and vegetables, and kept an immaculate home while managing the needs of her four children.

Traveling was one of Carmen’s passions. With Charles often busy in the fields, she traveled with her college friend, Betty, or her cousins Ann and Ronnie. Her travels included Russia, Sweden, Norway, Finland, England, Scotland, Venezuela, the National Parks, and a river cruise on the Mississippi River.

Carmen had an easygoing personality and was a friend to many. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, was an avid reader, participated in Bible studies at Stonehill College, and attended yearly Farm Bureau trips with Charles. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her memories will live on.

Carmen was the mother of Maura M. Goodney of Milford, Susan L. Richardson and her late husband Benjamin of Franklin, Louis S. McNamara and his wife Erica of Rochester and the late Michael C. McNamara and his surviving wife Keri of Stoughton. She was the grandmother of Garrett Goodney, Brendan and Hanna Richardson, and Joshua, Andrew, Megan, Kaitlyn and William McNamara. She was the sister of the late Louis Mastrocola and is also survived by several nieces and cousins.
