Carmen Mercadante, 88, died January 27, 2023 at after a period of declining health. He was the devoted husband of the late Eugenie E. “Jean” (McIntyre) Mercadante for 62 years. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Domenico and Mary Mercadante. He was raised in Roslindale and was a longtime resident of Stoughton and Raynham. Carmen attended Boston Technical School and worked alongside his father showcasing his carpentry and woodworking skills as a young man. He was a member of the Army National Guard 180th Field Artillery, Yankee Division in Boston for 11 years. Carmen worked for New England Telephone Company and Verizon for over 43 years, retiring many years ago. Carmen and Jean were dedicated volunteers for the Stoughton Youth Soccer League, and, along with dear friends Manfred & Roberta Koltz, were key organizers of the West Street Soccer Complex in Stoughton. They could often be found running the canteen truck at the soccer fields in earlier years and their many soccer friends became their soccer family. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, the Boston Bruins, game shows, traveling, listening to 50’s music and holding his loving wife’s hand.
Carmen is survived by his devoted daughter Donna Brazao and her husband Albert of Raynham, who cared for Carmen & Jean for many years. He was the grandfather to Brandon and Anthony Brazao and was preceded in death by his siblings Antoinette DeRosa and Marie Moriarty. He also leaves behind a son C.J. and several dear nephews and nieces.
