Catherine M. (Earley) Lopes

Catherine “Cathy” (Earley) Lopes, 84, of Stoughton, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on the morning of Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Waltham, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Earley.

While Cathy was serving as a nurse’s aide at the Brockton Hospital she met her future husband, Julius Lopes, many years ago while he was a patient. It was love at first sight and they have been inseparable ever since. Cathy was a devoted mother to their five children, and life was never a dull moment while she worked at Mr. G’s, and as a bus driver. Cathy had a love for square dancing, bingo, and traveling with her husband and closest friends. She especially enjoyed taking cruises and traveling and had fond memories of her trip to Hawaii.  Cathy also enjoyed traveling to local casinos. She was a spit fire with a heart of gold and loved spending time with her family.

Cathy is survived by her husband and love of her life, Julius Lopes of over 64 years and her five children, Ellen “Lynne” Elms and her husband Francis and Thomas Lopes, all of Stoughton, Julie-Ann Wilson of PA, Chrissy Carrico and her husband William Carrico of Franklin and Keith Wilson and his wife Noelle of Boston.  She is also survived by 2 siblings, Thomas Earley, and Elizabeth “Betsey” Diomedes, both of Stoughton.  Additionally, she loved and adored the new “additions” to the Lopes legacy that include 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

As a tribute to her and Julius’s wedding song, nothing captures it better than “Could I have this dance for the rest of my life”.

Grave-side services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10 AM at Knollwood Memorial Park, High St., Canton.  Donations in her memory may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy, 71 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
