Dr. Charles F. Leonard, MD of Stoughton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his favorite chair on Friday, September 18, 2026. Charles was born on June 23, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Arcadia, California where his family moved while he was a young boy.

Charles attended California Institute of Technology, where he earned a BS in Biology in 1964. He went to medical school at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he earned his MD in 1968.

Dr. Leonard did his Child Fellowship at Jewish Board of Guardians in New York City. He was a member of the Department of Psychiatry at Mayview State Hospital and St. Clair Hospital in Pennsylvania, and Medfield State Hospital and Cardinal Cushing Hospital, now Boston Medical Center South in Massachusetts. He ran his own private practice, Leonard Psychotherapy Associates in Stoughton, MA for 41 years. Dr. Leonard practiced child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry for many years, until his later years when he focused on adults recovering from trauma and addiction. Dr. Leonard never stopped learning and reaching for new ways to help his patients heal and grow.

Dr. Leonard contributed to several different organizations devoted to making the world a better place, including Habitat for Humanity, Southern Poverty Law Center, United Nations Children's Fund, and the Boston Food Bank.

Dr. Leonard was predeceased by his son Joel Robert Leonard. He is survived by his brother, Arthur F. Leonard of Beverly Hills, California, his daughter Alicia Brown and son-in-law Jeffrey Brown of Newtown, Connecticut, and his grandchildren Aaron and Iris Brown, both of whom he adored. Dr. Leonard spent hours discussing healthcare, medical research, and medical ethics with Aaron, and attended field hockey tournaments to cheer on Iris, as well as displayed her original artwork in his home. Dr. Leonard taped every greeting card he ever got from his grandchildren onto his kitchen cabinets.
