Charles “Major” Lynch, 89, a longtime resident of Stoughton and Cummaquid, died Monday, October 10, 2022. Charlie was born in Boston and was a graduate of Boston English High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. After his Honorable Discharge, he returned home and attended Boston College, graduating in 1959. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret A. “Peggy” (Kelley) Lynch of Stoughton, his son Christopher Lynch and his wife Kristina of Scituate, and his daughter Jennifer Lynch and her husband Demian Wyma of CA. He was the loving “Papa” of Ryan and Tom Lynch and Collin Wyma. Charlie was the brother of John “Jack” Lynch of Cambridge, Robert Lynch of Mansfield, James Lynch of Westwood, Margaret Lynch Sakakeeny of Belmont and the late Florence Anderson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a longtime employee of the Gillette Company in Boston, serving in several roles, most notably as the Manager of Civic Affairs and later retiring as the Manager of Trade Relations. He spent more than 33 years at Gillette and was influential in the lives and careers of countless employees. He was a longtime season ticket holder to BC Football and was famous for his tailgates and Bloody Mary’s on gamedays. In his free time, he enjoyed running, reading, playing tennis and spending time with his beloved family at his home on Cape Cod.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte 27) Stoughton, on Sunday October 16, 2022 from 3-6 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Due to Floral Restrictions at the Cemetery, Charlie's family has asked that In lieu of flowers and as Charlie attended Boston College on the GI Bill and was so grateful to be given that opportunity, it seems appropriate to create a scholarship fund at BC in his name. For those who wish to contribute; checks can be sent to Boston College (140 Commonwealth Ave Chestnut Hill, MA 02467) with “in memory of Charles Lynch ‘59” indicated.
