Charles H. McNamara Jr., 88, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 15, 2025. He was the husband of Carmen M. (Mastrocola) McNamara for 60 years. Born into a loving family, Charles was the son of the late Charles H. and Mary C. (Sheehan) McNamara. He graduated from Stoughton High School, Class of 1956, and he continued his education at Deerfield Academy before earning an Associate’s Degree from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass.
A passionate farmer, Charlie dedicated his life to McNamara Farms, the family farm in Stoughton that has been a cornerstone of the community for over 100 years. His friends affectionately called him Charlie Mac. In addition to farming, he owned a landscaping and snowplowing company, Country Club Lawns, which he managed with pride until his retirement at age 80.
Charlie loved his John Deere tractors and often traveled to upstate New York to attend tractor shows, frequently returning with new pieces of equipment, much to his wife’s disapproval. He enjoyed NASCAR races and regularly attended events in Loudon, NH.
As a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau, he contributed to his community by serving on the board of the Norfolk branch. Charlie cherished summer days in the hay fields. Still, he always made it a point to organize pig roasts and large family gatherings at Parkwood Beach in Wareham, creating lifelong memories with his family and friends.
His absence will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him. Charlie leaves behind a rich legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Charlie was the father of Maura M. Goodney of Milford, Susan L. Richardson and her late husband Benjamin of Franklin, Louis S. McNamara and his wife Erica of Rochester and the late Michael C. McNamara and his surviving wife Keri of Stoughton. He was the grandfather of Garrett Goodney, Brendan and Hanna Richardson, and Joshua, Andrew, Megan, Kaitlyn and William McNamara. He was the brother of Julie Gitto and Edward McNamara both of Stoughton and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
