Charlotte R. (Riedell) Shane

Charlotte Riedell Shane age 86, died on Monday, January 10, 2022 at the Blue Hills Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton, of complications from Parkinson's Disease and Covid-19. Born in Barnstable on October 16, 1935, she was the daughter of late Ethel (Parker) and Carl F. Riedell. Charlotte was the wife to the late John R. Shane for over 62 loving years and had been residents of Wayland for over 50 years. She spent her formative years in Osterville, MA, a village of Barnstable. She graduated from Barnstable High School and received her BA in Home Economics from the University of Maine at Orono. She was an avid runner and along with her husband, was a member of the Greater Framingham Running Club. She particularly enjoyed the Saturday morning runs followed by gatherings at her home. or of other members of the club. She, her husband, and many close friends at the club would also hike together all over various trails, and took countless trips to the New Hampshire White Mountains and Mount Washington.

Charlotte was a very skilled artist, frequently painting or cross-stitching images of birds, cats and other animals, which hang on the walls of her home. Charlotte will be fondly remembered by her family and large circle of close friends, as being one of the most giving people that they have known. In addition to being the devoted wife to the late John R. Shane, she was the mother to John E. Shane and his wife Mary Buzzell of Sharon, and the late Steven R. Shane. She was the cherished grandmother of Kassidy, Austin and Sean. She is also survived by her siblings Gretchen, Josephine, Carl, Eric and the late Katherine, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charlotte will be cremated and at an appropriate time her ashes, along with those of her late husband, will be spread together at a place that both of them loved. Due to the current pandemic, no formal gathering of family and friends is being planned at this time. Family and close friends will learn of any plans when the safety of all can be assured.
