Chong Ok Yi, 89, (94 in Korean age) died Tuesday, September 22, 2025, at the Boston Medical Center in Boston, after being stricken ill at her home in Stoughton. She was the wife of the late Kyong Young Ham. Born in Do Dae Ri, Korea, she was raised during the time when Korea was occupied by Japan and family became her focus. She married and raised her children in South Korea and then came to the US in 1977 on a medical visa. In 1979, she obtained a permanent visa and returned to the US and settled in Dorchester. Over the next few years, she sponsored her children to immigrate, and they soon joined her in the area. Later, she lived with family in New York City, Mansfield, MA and Providence, RI, before moving to Stoughton in 2007. Chong was a dedicated and devoted mother, whose life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She was constantly feeding and doting on them and was happiest surrounded by them.
Chong was the mother of Mija Soroko of Stoughton, Seong-Nam Ham of Korea, Seong-Moon Ham of Easton, Seong-Pal Ham of RI, Sook-Ja Ham of Hawaii and Seong-Ki “Steve” Ham of NH. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, October 3 from 4-6 PM with Funeral Prayers at 6 PM. Funeral Service will take place at the Funeral Home on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon.
