Clare M. "Mitzi" (Monahan) Coombes, 87, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Monday, November 15, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Gordon F. "Fred" Coombes, Jr. Daughter of the late Raymond and Bridget (Moriarty) Monahan, she was born in Boston and grew up in Dorchester. She was a graduate of Jeremiah Burke High School, Class of 1950 and Boston City Hospital Nursing School, Class of 1956. She resided in Stoughton since 1963. Clare was a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital for 20 years and also worked at several nursing homes in the area before retiring in 2005. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Clare is survived by her children, Ann M. Lieberman and her husband David of Tewksbury, Donna L. Flynn of Stoughton, Linda L. Billotta and her husband Joseph and Debra J. Coombes and her fiancé Richard Albon all of Taunton, Robert V. Coombes and his wife Lyn-Ann of Rockland and Nancy J. Wilbar and her husband Adam both of Stoughton. She was the grandmother of Danny, Olivia, Michael, Christopher, Kendra, Brenna, Jordan, Dakota, Brady and the late Kevin and John and great-grandmother of Brailyn. She was the sister of the late Jean Smith, Nancy Savage and Paul Monahan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, November 19 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
