David K. Somers, 78, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Friday, November 13, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Arlene F. (Chipman) Somers for 58 years. Son of the late Claxton and Marypaul (Lallier) Joiner, he was born in Waterford, VT and raised in Dorchester and Stoughton. David was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1961. He was an Airman 1st Class in the U.S. Air Force and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for Paquette Machine & Tool in Avon for 40 years before retiring 15 years ago. David was a longtime member of the VFW Post 1645, AMVETS Post 1977 and American Legion Post 89 all in Stoughton. He enjoyed dining out with family and friends and his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children, Renee D. Somers of East Providence, RI and Derek Somers of Stoughton as well as his grandchildren, Luke Somers, Calise Somers and Brendan Somers. He is also survived by his sister, Paulette Kennedy of Brockton and several nieces and nephews.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, funeral services will be private with a celebration of life at a later date. Interment will take place at Dry Pond Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in David's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
