David A. Volpe

David A. Volpe, 69, a longtime resident of Sharon, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 8, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of Jennifer (Palmer) Volpe, and the son of the late Frank and Adele (Shimkus) Volpe. Dave was born in Holyoke, raised in South Hadley, and was a graduate of South Hadley High School, Class of 1973. He earned degrees from both Holyoke Community College, and the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Dave’s passion for good food led him to become a very talented and creative chef and he worked in the field for many years. Eventually, Dave transitioned to sales, where he also excelled but still enjoyed cooking for and feeding family and friends at gatherings and holidays. David finished his career working the last 10 years at Insulation Depot in Framingham as the National Accounts Manager.

David became an avid golfer and longtime member of Walpole Country Club where he played his last round of golf with the best man from his wedding the week before he died. Dave maintained a close bond throughout his life with childhood friends that he had met in grade-school, and two weeks ago sent a message to one of them saying, “Can you believe we’ve been friends for 58 years? Makes me feel pretty lucky.”

Dave cherished these friendships and stayed in touch with these lifelong friends and their wives for annual get togethers, dinners, and the boys golfing trips; all a very important part of his life. David was opinionated, funny, loved sports, cooking for friends, and a good conversation. He was kind and had a big heart.

David leaves his wife of 40 years, Jennifer Volpe, his sisters, Ellen Wohlers of Easthampton, Frances Volpe of Granby, his mother-in-law Eleanor Palmer of Stoughton, and his sister-in-law Janis Palmer of Murrells Inlet, SC. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a celebration of David’s life on Friday, September 5th at 1:00 pm at Walpole Country Club 233 Baker St. Walpole, MA. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice or take a friend to lunch.
