Donald J. “Burnsie” Burns, 95, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Thursday, September 8, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary C. (Evans) Burns for 74 years. Son of the late Francis J. and Catherine Grace (Buckley) Burns, he was born in Boston and raised in Roxbury and Dorchester. He was a graduate of Boston English High School, Class of 1944. He resided in Stoughton since 1968. Burnsie served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He was a postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service at the South Postal Annex in Boston for 25 years before retiring in 1988. Prior to that, he worked for Sears & Roebuck in Boston for many years.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his children, Sharon A. Kratohvil of Norton, Joanne E. Loud and her husband Walter of Stoughton and Susan E. Weston and her husband George of Bloomsburg, PA. He was the grandfather of Jennifer Caristi, Christopher Bolster and Michael Loud and great-grandfather of Kyle Loud, Benjamin Caristi and Hunter Loud.  He was the brother of Thomas Burns of Stoughton and the late Francis Burns and Joyce Keegan and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, September 12th, from 10-11AM, with Funeral Prayers at 11AM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
