Dora P. (Avellino) Calisi, 84, born May 11, 1940. Surrounded by loving family and caregivers, she passed away after a period of declining health, in the comfort of her home in Stoughton, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Born on the island of Ponza, in Italy, she came to the United States at age 7. She lived briefly in Roxbury before moving to Roslindale, where she was raised and educated. She was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. In 1958, she married Mario Calisi at Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale. Together they raised their 6 beloved children in Jamaica Plain; they enjoyed 40 years of marriage before his death in 1999. Dora was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She was also very active in the family’s business, Calisi’s Flowerland in Roslindale, working as an exceptionally talented floral designer and bookkeeper.
Dora was a woman with many interests, most of them involving her family. She loved spending summers at her home in Onset as well as gardening, cooking, and baking. She always looked forward to Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. She also enjoyed trips to Twin River to play the slots, crocheting, making pillow covers, refinishing furniture, painting, and vacationing with her husband, family, and friends. The thing she cherished the most was being surrounded by her loving family.
Dora was the wife of the late Mario Calisi. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Avellino. She is survived by her children, Francis J. Calisi, Mario A. Calisi and his wife Tracy, and Anna M. Romano and her husband Carlo, all of Stoughton, Anthony M. Calisi and his wife Eleanor of North Easton, John N. Calisi and his wife Sandra of West Roxbury, and Doriann Calisi of Plymouth. She is also survived by 14 cherished grandchildren, and her first great-grandchild, who is due in May.
