Dorothy A. “Dottie” (Block) Vandenberghe, age 71 of DelRay Beach, FL formerly of Sharon, passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2024 with her children by her side. Born in Brookline on October 11, 1952, she was the daughter of Sandra Block and the late Arthur Block. Dottie attended Sharon Public Schools, graduating from Sharon High School in 1970. After attending Dean College, she left to work at John Hancock, working as a waitress at Nick’s Place in Canton when her kids were young, and then went on to work at Walmart as an associate until her retirement in 2017.

On July 19, 1975 she married the love of her life, Teddy Vandenberghe, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage until his passing in 2020. Finally settling down on Mohawk Street in 1982, they raised 2 twin boys who were their miracle children – Shaun Vandenberghe and his girlfriend Bethaney Mohondro of Walpole, and Chris Vandenberghe and his wife Melissa of Lakeville. In addition to her children, she is survived by her four beautiful grandchildren, Noah Kelly, Lucas Vandenberghe, Presleigh Vandenberghe, and Aria Vandenberghe. She is also survived by her mother Sandra Block, her sisters Sharon Delaney, Joni Promisel, her brother Steven Block and the late Paula Morency, as well as 8 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

Dottie was a resident of Sharon, MA for nearly 40 years until she and Teddy decided to retire down to Florida. She was an absolute Boston sports nut, with a tie between which team she loved more – the Bruins or the Redsox. Dottie was an avid player of the game of cribbage for years and found herself a league to play in her retired life in Florida. However, Dottie’s true passion was her family. Being told she could not have kids when she was 22, Dottie and Teddy knew that having a family was not possible until the advancement in modern medicine made that impossibility possible with invitro-fertilization. Her kids were her miracle children, “Doubly Special” as they were coined. Her boys were everything to her, especially after her beloved Teddy passed.  In her last weeks of life, all she could talk about was how excited she was to come up from Florida and see her sons and spend time with her grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Farley Funeral Home 358 Park Street (Rt. 27) Stoughton, on Sunday June 23rd from 11 AM-12 PM, with Family Reflections at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dottie’s name may be made to the American Cribbage Congress (ACC) https://americancribbagecongress.org/collections/donations
