Edward T. Gavin, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 60 years, Mary J. (Whynot) Gavin. Born, raised, and educated in Boston, he was the son of the late John J. Gavin and Phyllis (Vallis) Gavin. He and his wife raised their 6 children in Westwood where they shared many memories throughout their lives. After raising their family in Westwood, he settled later in life in Stoughton. Ed enlisted in the Army in his late teens and was a dignified Army Veteran. He was the proud owner of Tibbett’s Electric out of Dedham for 30 years, where he worked as an electrical contractor. After retiring from his company, he still went on to work as an electrician where he showcased his skills in the work he performed. Ed was a past Commodore of the Boston Harbor Yacht Club, and a past member of Plymouth Yacht Club. He was in his element when sailing on his sailboat and especially enjoyed being out on the water. He was an avid golfer, and loved restoring antique automobiles as a side hobby, but above all he was a devoted husband, father, Grandpa and Great-Grampa, and will be greatly missed.
Ed is survived by his children, Phyllis M. Mello and her husband Kurt of Holbrook, Edward T. Gavin, Jr. of Middleboro, Mary E. Dore and her husband Sean of Braintree, David M. Gavin and his wife Anne of West Bridgewater, John J. Gavin and his wife Suzanne of Plymouth, and Paula J. Fisk and her husband John of NY. He was predeceased by his brothers Michael, Leo, John and Philip Gavin. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home (Rt. 27), 358 Park Street, Stoughton, on Friday June 20th at 10-11-30 AM, with a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM. Interment to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the “Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism” at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/dfjffai/ or at 42 Felton Street 2R Waltham, MA 02453.
