Eric J. Springstead
Eric James Springstead, age 68, a longtime resident of Sharon, died peacefully at home on the evening of Saturday January 6, 2024, surrounded by family. He leaves to mourn in his passing, his wife Marcia (Myers) Springstead of 41 years. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Gilmore) Springstead. Eric fought a courageous battle over the last 4 years with Lewy Body Dementia. Even in his moments of failing memory, he never forgot his faith in God. He thought electrical was his path, then he realized that he had a greater drive for computer technology. He graduated in 1974 from Charlestown High School with an apprentice certificate in electrical, followed by obtaining his degree in Computer Science at Bentley College. He also received certifications in networking IBM, Oracle, Database Architecture, and Stratus technology which led to his career in Software Administration.
Eric was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Sharon. The word “no” was seldom on his lips and was always ready to help people in their times of need. Eric also loved music; it was his passion. He played the drums in a band called One People, for several years. He continued his music during worship services at church by playing the congas and tambourine. He will be sorely missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, his beloved Aunt Thelma, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
In addition to his loving wife Marcia, he is survived by his daughters Serena Gilchrist and her husband Steven, and Lucia Springstead and her partner Steven Bryant. He is also survived by his grandchildren Janessa, Grant and Zoe. He is survived by his three siblings, Larry Springstead of Washington State, Janis Springstead of Brockton, and Mark Springstead of Waltham, and was preceded in death by his siblings Roger Springstead and Dana Springstead.
