Ernesto “Ernie” Bruno Antonio Michele Bortolotto, born on December 4, 1940, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on December 17, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Ernesto and Maria (Menghelli) Bortolotto. Ernie lived with Frontal Temporal Lobe Dementia for the past 9 years, facing it with strength and courage. He moved back to Massachusetts 3 years ago, so he could be surrounded by family. He was a proud veteran, serving as a Captain in the Army and was stationed overseas in Germany in 1964 during the Vietnam War, and was proud to represent his country. His service reflected the same commitment and strength that he carried throughout his lifetime. He remained there for 3 years. Ernesto was awarded the National Defense Service Award. When he returned home after discharge, he started his career as an accountant and later worked as a Chief Financial Officer with the RFX Company. He retired after decades of service with the company. Throughout his lifetime he had many interests. He had a deep love for old cars and dancing as a competitive Ballroom dancer. He was a lifelong member of the Military Officers Association of America. After retirement Ernie loved to travel and enjoy one adventure after another. He will be greatly missed.
Ernie is survived by his four children, Laura McMahon and her husband James, Michael Bortolotto and his wife Jody, Scott Bortolotto and his wife Christy, and David Bortolotto and his wife Berta. He is also survived by Anne (McTernan) Bortolotto, the mother of his children who was a large part of his life. He is the proud grandfather to his 8 grandchildren, Bryce, Madison, Nicholas, Luke, Claire, Ryan, Victoria, and Nicole. He also leaves behind his beloved sister Lilly Chelman of California and was preceded in death by and his sister Delma Calderan, as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church 87 N. Main St, Avon on Friday January 9th at 11 AM. Burial will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. In lieu of flowers donations in Ernie's memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/.
