Eugene “Gene” Ellis, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, at Cornerstone in Canton, Massachusetts. Born and raised in Boston, Gene was educated in the Boston Public School system and was a proud graduate of Boston English High School, Class of 1952. He continued his education at Boston University, where he earned a master’s degree, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and education.
In 1957, Gene married Anne Perry, and together they raised their three children - Tracy, Randy, and Lisa - in Sharon, Massachusetts. Gene devoted his professional life to the Boston Public Schools, beginning his career as an educator and later serving as a principal. Over 44 years of service, he was known for his integrity, leadership, and deep belief in the power of education to shape lives. He retired at age 68, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues.
In his younger years, Gene was an accomplished athlete and track star. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, and watching western movies. In later life, Gene met Myrtle David of Sharon, who became his cherished companion for more than two decades until his passing. Gene especially loved large family gatherings, traveling - particularly Alaskan cruises - and spending winters with Myrtle in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
Gene is survived by his children: Tracy Ellis-Weit and her husband Jeff Weit of California; Randy Ellis and his wife Tami Ellis of Sharon; and Lisa Ellis and her partner Paul Quadrozzi of Centerville. He was a proud “Pops” to his grandchildren Holly Reno, Jessica Giardino, Gene Ellis III, Melissa Ellis, Karl Weit, Haley Jones, and Makenzie Jester; their spouses; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings William, Ken, and Courtland Ellis.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cornerstone in Canton, Copley Rehabilitation in Stoughton, and Tides Hospice for their care, kindness, and compassion during Gene’s final months. Family services will be held privately.
