Eva P. (Allen) Lewis

Eva P. (Allen) Lewis passed away at the age of 96 on March 9th, 2021 at her home in Stoughton where she has lived for 67 years. She was the wife of late John "Gabby" Lewis and is survived by her son, John Lewis, Jr. and his wife Yanwu Huang of New Hampshire and his daughter-in-law, Joyce Lewis of Brockton and her grandchildren, Rory McHugh, Ian Lewis and Katharine Lewis; and a great grandson, Shane McHugh. She was the mother of the late Catherine Lewis Sandhaus and the late Brian K. Lewis. Eva was born in Boston to George H. and Rebecca (Richards) Allen. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George Allen and Lloyd Allen and her sisters, Muriel MacDonald, Mary Moynihan, and Mildred Eagles. She is survived by her sister Polly Underlay of Prince Edward Island, Canada.

She and her husband Gabby moved to Stoughton in 1954 from Boston. Eva spent many years raising her family and contributing to community activities such as St Mary's Home and School Association; as a Corp Mother for Golden Rays Drum and Bugle Corps; and as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter's Brownie Troop. Once her family was grown, Eva became a Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) where she supported the elderly and those in need in Stoughton and other towns under the Old Colony Charter. Her contributions in this area led to the development of the Stoughton Council on Aging, where she was appointed as Director of the program. She was recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Town of Stoughton for her contributions that laid the foundation of a program that is still in effect today. She will be remembered as a good citizen, mother, sister and friend.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, Funeral Services will be private with a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. Family members and friends will be notified of the date.
