Francis "Fran" Michael DeSantis, age 86, passed away at CareOne in Weymouth, on October 12, 2021 after a period of declining health following a fall. He was born in Boston to the late Frank V. and Lillian (Ferreira) DeSantis. He was raised in Stoughton and graduated Stoughton High School in 1953. Fran, who was dealing with Alzheimer's, was a resident of BrightView Canton Memory Care for the last three years but firmly believed that Stoughton was the only town to live in.
He served two tours in the Army as a heavy truck driver and was stationed in Korea. Fran, a member of Local 4 Operating Engineers for over 50 years, was a crane operator and worked on many projects including Boston's Big Dig. In retirement, he drove a van for the Stoughton Council on Aging.
Fran absolutely loved dogs, especially golden retrievers. He enjoyed watching sports and loved the Boston Bruins whom he supported with season tickets for 50 years. He had a passion for automobiles and was also an avid card player.
Fran is survived by his son Wayne DeSantis of Stoughton. Also survived by many cousins and his former wife Jean Johnson of Stoughton as well as his friend of many years, Joan Fuller of Norwell. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Massachusetts SPCA, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
