Fred T. "Ted" Simms, 85, died unexpectedly on Monday, February 8, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Halloran) Simms for 64 years. Born and raised in Cranston, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Fred W. and Elsie R. Simms. He attended Cranston Schools. Ted was a proud veteran of the US Air Force and later was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard as a Sergeant First Class. He was a longtime employee of the New England Telephone Comapny and Verizon Communications in Taunton and was very active in their union, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, as a Shop Steward. He retired in 1992. He remained active as the longtime treasurer of the Benevolent Telephone Death Benefit Fund, Inc. Ted was also active in Stoughton politics as a member of the Finance Committee and was a longtime Town Meeting Representative. Ted was a member of the Italian Club in Taunton, as well as various Masonic Lodges. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and for the past 26 years enjoyed traveling to Fort Myers for Spring Training with family and friends. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family and his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Barbara, Ted is survived by his two sons, Fred T. Simms, Jr. and his wife Orla of Stoughton and Thomas W. Simms and his wife Tereese of Virginia. He was predeceased by his daughter Deborah A. Beauregard and is also survived by his son-in-law Mark Beauregard of Stoughton. He was the brother of C. Carolina (Simms) Howland, married to Lew Howland, of Rhode Island and the late Thomas W. Simms, married to Sally Simms, of Rhode Island. Ted was the beloved "Bumpa" of Derek and Deirdre Simms, Jocelyn and Tommy Simms, and Nicole and Courtney Beauregard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours at Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street, Stoughton, MA on February 12, 2021, 9:30-10:30. Due to Covid Restrictions, Private Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held at the North Burial Ground in Providence, RI. Donations in Ted's memory may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
