Obituary

George A. Milne, age 90 of Stoughton, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret (Peggy) Milne. George was born in Portsoy, Scotland and was very proud of his Scottish heritage. He was also proud to be an American and would always say “only in America”. At the age of 21 he came to the U.S. with one suitcase and made a wonderful life for himself and his family. He retired 30 years ago from the Boston Globe. George and his wife Peggy moved to Stoughton to be closer to their children and grandchildren. George loved all Boston sports and Soccer, especially his beloved Red Sox he hardly ever missed a game. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and was loved by everyone that met him due his quick wit and genuine kindness. He loved his retirement on Cape Cod spending about 25 years there enjoying all the Cape had to offer including golf, singing Scottish songs and dancing at the Irish Village in Yarmouth. George will be so missed by his loving family, his wit and charm can never be replaced.

He was the loving cherished father of Margaret Milne, George and Jill Milne, Helen and Michael Smith, and Christine Bagley. He was also the loving grandfather of Kayla and her husband Sean, Shannon and her wife Lauren, Riley, Tyler, Jessica, Christopher and Casey, and the loving great-grandfather of Carter, Reese, Henry and the soon to be born George (his namesake), and we can't forget his fur baby Lily.

Family services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
