George Rapchuck

George Rapchuck, 92, died Monday, May 9, 2022, at the Copley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton after a period of declining health. Born in Chelsea, son of the late Andrew and Vera Rapchuck, he was raised and educated in Chelsea and a graduate of Chelsea High School. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force, proudly serving from September of 1948 until his Honorable Discharge in August of 1952. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1951, he met Harriett Ferris on a blind date, they married in 1953 and together, spent over 67 years of marriage and raised two beloved daughters before her death in 2021. He was a resident of Stoughton, previously spending over 50 years in Brockton. He worked for Sears & Roebuck for over 35 years, working as a salesman in the furniture department in the Boston, Dedham and Brockton stores. He retired at age 62. George was a longtime devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Brockton, serving as a Deacon and on the Flower Committee amongst other roles. He was also a loyal member of the Masonic Lodge for 51 years. He was raised in the Hyde Park Lodge before joining the Paul Revere Lodge AF&AM in Brockton where he belonged for many years. George was presented the Joseph Warren Distinguished Service Medal in 2010, and the 50-year Master Mason Medal in 2021. He was also the Chairman Emeritus of the Service Committee. George was an avid landscaper and enjoyed taking care of his yard and helping friends and neighbors. He was a sports fan, and above all, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

George was the father of JoAnne Schwartz and her late husband Kenneth of Sudbury and Karen Rapchuck and her partner Paula Meyer of Norwood. He was the beloved Grampy of Benjamin and Evelyn Schwartz. George was the brother of Andrew Rapchuck of Winthrop and the late Jennie Edgecomb and Olga Monk. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, May 13th at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours will be held prior to the Funeral Service from 9:00 - 10:30AM. Interment will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, Donations in George's memory may be made to the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge Angel Fund, 279 Prospect Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
