Gerald J. Pongonis, 75, died Tuesday, January 24, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, he was raised and educated in Jamaica Plain and was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School. He also graduated from Fisher Junior College. He was a proud Veteran of the US Navy, serving for four years during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and married Frances M. Fiore and together they spent over 52 years of marriage while raising three beloved sons. Gerry was a longtime salesman for Frank Lamparelli Oil in Canton, working for over 20 years and retiring in 2015. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping, boating and spending time at his vacation home on Thompson Lake in Maine. Gerry and his wife loved traveling on cruises as well as trips to Europe, including Italy, Germany, Austria, England, Russia and France. He was a collector of sports memorabilia and loved oldies music and scratch tickets, but his favorite memories were spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his wife Frances, he is survived by his three sons, Jeffrey J. Pongonis and his wife Krystal of Taunton, Steven G. Pongonis of Stoughton and Mark C. Pongonis and his wife Lea of West Bridgewater. He was the grandfather of Jillian E., Jackson C., Presley S. and Harrison E. Pongonis. He was the brother of Lorraine Murphy of Framingham and was son of the late Stanley and Frances V. Pongonis. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 2-5 PM at Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton, MA. Funeral will be held at Farley Funeral Home on Monday, January 30th, 2023 at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon. Donations in Gerry’s memory may be made to The American Heart Association.
