Humberto DeFreitas, 81, of Stoughton, MA, passed away on October 30, 2024. Born on August 8, 1943, Humberto served in the Portuguese Military in Angola before embarking on a career as a mini-market owner in Santa Maria. In 1989, he relocated to the United States and began working at Shawmut Mills in West Bridgewater, MA, where he remained until his retirement in 2010.
Humberto was a man of many passions, including making wine, gardening, and playing cards at the St. John Portuguese Club, where he was a long-time member. He cherished moments spent playing with his grandchildren, who brought great joy to his life.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Virginia Freitas, his children Duarte Freitas and his wife Licia of Taunton, Zeca Freitas and his wife Jeanie of Taunton, Lucia DeSousa and her husband Fran of Stoughton, John Freitas and his wife Deka of Westport, Lucilia Cobb and her husband Cliff of Stoughton and Amilcar Freitas, his grandchildren, Vanessa, Amanda, Sabrena, Nuno, Carina, Jason, Leo, Rebeca, Stella, Mason and Luke, and 5 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Humberto was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Inacio and Filomena Freitas, brothers Manuel and Jacinto Freitas, sister Deonilde Teves, and grandson Ryan DeSousa. Humberto's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his service, and his community involvement, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Monday, November 4 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
