Dr J. Edward Carchidi, age 88, of West Bridgewater and Megansett, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning October 9, 2022 under the loving care of his wife Barbara (Waraksa) Carchidi.
Edward Carchidi was a man of dreams, determination, and quiet accomplishments. Known as an insightful listener who had empathy and compassion for everyone he met, he lived a life of integrity, generosity and humility.
The son of Italian immigrants, Edward learned early in life the value of hard work. After graduating from Brockton High School in 1952, he went on to pursue multiple endeavors. He was an oral surgeon, entrepreneur, inventor, and teacher. He earned his Bachelor of Science in both Biology and Chemistry from Tufts University in 1956, a Master of Science from Boston University in 1958, his DDS from Temple University in 1962, and thereafter completed his specialty degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Tufts University and Boston City Hospital. He later was a part-time clinical professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Tufts University.
As a proud Brocktonian, Edward returned to the city in 1965 to start his oral surgery practice on South Main Street. One of his proudest achievements was meeting and helping so many wonderful people within the community for the thirty years he practiced.
In 1966, he started ACE Surgical Supply Company along with his wife, sister, and childhood friends. He worked to grow it into an industry-leading business that continues to supply products to dental specialists around the world. Dr. Carchidi holds several US patents for products that are still used by dentists today. Throughout his career, his ACE team was like a second family to him, with several members spending their entire careers with him.
Edward’s commitment to his family was most important to him. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. As his family grew over the years, so did his unconditional love for them.
His life was enriched by his relationships with many longtime close friends. Together, they regularly enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and cards, as well as relaxing on Cape Cod.
Edward is survived by his wife Barbara of 56 years, his loving children Christopher Carchidi and his wife Tanya of Hingham; Craig Carchidi and his wife Kimberly of North Falmouth, and his daughter Nina Martin and her husband Todd of Bridgewater. He was affectionately called Nunu by his four grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Nathan, and Brody.
Edward was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Castagna) Carchidi, and was the brother of the late Angela (Carchidi) Lyons, Sam Carchidi, Mary Katherine Carchidi, Francis Carchidi, and Raymond Carchidi. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins whom he cherished, and who brought him a lifetime of great joy.
Visiting Hours will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, October 21 from 4-7 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 433 West St., Brockton on Saturday, October 22 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private.
