Jaime Fernandes Jardim, age 92, a longtime resident of Stoughton, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Gilda (deAguiar) Jardim, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Madalena do Mar on the island of Madeira, Portugal, Jaime was the son of the late João Fernandes Jardim and Maria da Silva Pires. In 1961, he moved his family to South Africa before immigrating to the United States in 1978, where he settled in Stoughton. A skilled craftsman, Jaime worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years after arriving in the community.
He was a proud member of the Portuguese National Club in Stoughton and will be remembered as an avid gardener and talented handyman. Jaime found great joy in woodworking, fishing, and walking, and took special pride in pruning fruit trees for his family, friends, and neighbors. He also loved to travel, especially to Brazil and his native Madeira.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jaime is survived by his children: Maria Jardim of Brockton; Elizabeth Marves and her husband Gary of Foxboro; João “Frank” Jardim and his wife Maureen of Stoughton; Louis Jardim and his late wife Janice of West Bridgewater; Tony Jardim and his wife Samantha of Sparks, Nevada; and Michael Jardim and his wife Rose of Stoughton. He was a cherished “Grampy” to Adam, Zachary, Christopher, Jennifer, Nicholas, Dustin, Matthew, Jason, Richard, Craig, Alec, Nicole, Michael, and Jake. He also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his sister, Ligia Farinha of Portugal. He was predeceased by his brothers João and Agostinho Jardim.
Visiting hours will be held at Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday, April 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 7, at 9:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton at 10:30 AM.
