James Maurice Carleton

James Maurice Carleton, 83, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Monday, November 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.  He was the husband of Josephine R. (Vitale) Carleton for 60 years.  Son of the late Elsie (Potter) Carleton and her husband John and Maurice Schaeffer, he was born in Boston and raised in Roxbury.  He earned his Associate Degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology and his Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University, both in Boston.  He resided in Stoughton since 1983.  James worked for Teradyne in Boston for 30 years and Copley Controls in Canton for over 10 years before retiring at age 72.  He then worked part-time at Amazon.  He enjoyed playing bocce in his earlier years and loved collecting vinyl records and books.  He also enjoyed watching football and taking photos at family gatherings.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, Christine Carleton of Brockton, Richard Carleton and his wife Roberta of Pelham, NH and Linda Lane of Fall River as well as his grandchildren, Charissa, Ciara, Christopher, Jamie, Bobby, Ryan, Kristen and Makayla and his great-grandchildren, Tristen, Lily, Bradley and the late Jameson.  He was the sister of the late Lillian, Richard and Catherine.

Visitation will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, November 27 from 11 AM -12 PM followed by graveside prayers at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.  In lieu of flowers, donations in James‘ memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379 (https://www.oldcolonyhospice.org/).
