Janet M. (Sweeney) Lothrop

Janet M. (Sweeney) Lothrop, age 81, passed away on March 14, 2023, at her residence in Stoughton. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph E. Lothrop. Born in Boston, she was the daughter to the late Helen (Murray) and Daniel Sweeney, and was a longtime resident of Stoughton. She graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston, and went on to attend Catherine Labouré Nursing School becoming a Registered Nurse and then received her Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Emmanuel College. She was a working nurse for 50 years, dedicating her time, and hard work at Brigham and Women’s Hospital before retiring. She loved to entertain and host her family and friends for any and all events, cooking many different dishes showcasing her skills. She was a generous woman with an open door policy for anyone she knew, and was known as a caretaker and the matriarch of her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her children Michelle M. Lothrop of Stoughton, Joseph E. Lothrop, Jr. and his wife Jacqueline of Norfolk and Victoria R. Brien and her husband William of Medfield. She was the grandmother to Olivia, Emma and Samuel Corcoran, Joseph, Mason and Knox Lothrop, and Rose and Willam Brien. She is survived by her brother Daniel Sweeney and his wife Linda of Mashpee and was preceded in death by her beautiful sister Carol McMurtry, and also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Sunday March 19^th from 5-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held the next day, Monday March 20^th at 10 AM at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 845 East Broadway, South Boston, with interment to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
