Janet F. (Gosbee) Stokes

Janet F. (Gosbee) Stokes, 70, died unexpectedly on May 25, 2023 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton.  She was the wife of the late Mick Stokes.  Born in Cambridge, she was raised and educated in Whitman and was a 1970 graduate of Whitman Hanson High School.  She was a resident of Weymouth for many years.  Janet was the Office Manager at Temple Sinai in Sharon where she was warm and welcoming to all and beloved by the congregants and staff for over 18 years. She loved the outdoors, was a talented skier and was a longtime instructor in the Bretton Woods Adaptive Program through the New England Disabled Sports Program at Bretton Woods Ski Area in New Hampshire. She loved camping, biking, kayaking on the Deerfield River and sky diving and was the beloved “Auntie” to relatives, friends and strangers during her camping trips on "The River".  A longtime member of the Old Colony Ski Club in North Woodstock, NH, Janet was loved by many and cherished the times spent with family and friends every year at the White Mountain Boogie & Blues Festival. 

Janet was the longtime companion of James Baldwin of Weymouth and the devoted sister of Debra J. McGrath and her husband John of Stoughton.  She was the mother of the late Justin Gavaza and the stepmother of Michelle Stokes of England. She is also survived by her nephews Michael and Daniel McGrath and was predeceased by her dog Braydee.
