Joao Junior "John" DePina

Joao Junior “John” DePina, 48, died Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Boston Medical Center in Boston, after a short illness. Born and raised in Dorchester, he was educated in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton Schools.  John worked as a chef in the Food Service industry for many years, notably at Michael’s Harborside in Newburyport, Proctor & Gamble and at the Gillette Company, both in Boston.  In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his daughter and his family and friends.

John is survived by his fiancé, Maria Socorro Carvalho and his daughter Elizabeth Karen Carvalho DePina, both of RI; and his parents, Zelia M. Pontes-Fernandes and her husband Beny Fernandes of Stoughton and Joao Loreno DePina of Cape Verde.  He was the brother of Zely Hoskins, Marco Antonio Pontes Fernandes, Alex Pontes Fernandes, Joao Bernardo Fernandes, Alicia Fernandes, Leo Barros, Alex DePina, Jailson DePina, Kevin DePina, Leny DePina, Heleno DePina, Lorena Kanaan, Denise DePina-Rodrigues, Benjamin DePina, Anderson DePina and Andrea DePina-Moore.  He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.   

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 10-11:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 12 Noon.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
