João Luis Spranger, age 80, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Stoughton on July 19, 2026. Born and raised in Madeira, Portugal, João Luis spent part of his early life in Venezuela before immigrating to the United States. He eventually settled in Stoughton, where he became a longtime resident, raised his family, and built a life rooted in hard work and community. João Luis retired from the Foxboro Company, where he worked as a CNC machine operator. He was actively involved in the Portuguese community and generously volunteered his time to support community events and activities. He found joy in cooking, gardening, fixing things around the house and spending time with his friends and family. A passionate soccer fan, João Luis was a lifelong supporter of S.L. Benfica and rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his favorite club or watch a soccer match. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those he loved.
João Luis is survived by his loving daughters, Elizabeth Spranger Vieira and her husband, Miguel of South Easton, and Fatima Spranger Mello and her husband Daniel, of Raynham. He was the beloved Avô of Ava and Aiden Vieira, and Melina Mello. He is also survived by his sisters, Lisete Spranger Carvalho, Ana Maria Spranger DaSilva, and Regina Spranger Oliveira, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Jose Antonio Spranger, of Venezuela, and by his parents, Virginia Elsa Spranger and Joel Mesquita Spranger, of Madeira, Portugal.
Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday July 27th from 9-10:30 AM.
