John E. Camara, 92, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at his home after a short period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Theresa M. (Andrade) Camara. Born in Easton, son of the late John and Isabel (Correia) Camara, he was raised and educated in Easton and was a 1951 graduate of Oliver Ames High School. John was a proud Korean War veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1951 until 1955, including almost 2 years overseas. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to Easton and began working for the Teamsters, Local 25 at Mass Dispatch, for 20 years. Later, he worked as a Security Guard at Motorola in Canton for 10 years. He retired many years ago.
After the loss of his daughter Pamela in 1987, John became a dedicated volunteer for Old Colony Hospice and, in 2008, he was awarded the National Hospice and Palliative Care Patient/Family Volunteer of the Year. He also enjoyed volunteering at the St. Anthony Free Market with Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. John was proud of his Portuguese heritage and was a member of Club SS Sacramento in New Bedford. In 2022, he was the Parade Marshall of the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament at Club SS Sacramento and enjoyed working the Feast for many years. He was a longtime member of the VFW Post 2547 in Easton. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, playing softball and spending time with family and friends.
John was the father of Paula C. Collins and her husband Peter of Shrewsbury, John E. “Ted” Camara and his wife Kimberly of Easton and the late Pamela Camara. He was the loving grandfather of McKegg and Tucker Collins and Carrie and Joseph Camara. John was the brother of Evangeline Crocker, Joseph Camara and Linda Amorim all of Easton, Alice Camara of New York, Gloria Walsh of Bourne and the late Celeste Dahlborg, William Camara, Mary Rose and Ernest Camara. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Monday, April 20, 2026 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 21 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Donations in John’s memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379 (www.oldcolonyhospice.org) or to the Museum of Madeiran Heritage, 27 Hope St., New Bedford, MA 02746.
