John F. Curry, CDR, USCG (Ret.), 97, died Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Brockton Post Acute Care Center in Brockton, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Shirley F. (Curry) Curry. Born in Chelsea, son of the late Joseph and Jane (Donahue) Curry, he was raised and educated in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1945. He later graduated from Northeastern University. Following his graduation from High School, he joined the US Coast Guard and spent over 27 years of dedicated service, retiring in 1973 with the rank of Commander. During his service, he was stationed in several locations throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. After his retirement, John continued to work as the general manager of Boston Fuel Transportation and then worked for Exxon as a consultant before retiring again at the age of 85.
In 1949, John married Shirley F. Curry and together they spent over 69 years married and raised their 4 beloved children, before her passing in 2018. They settled in Stoughton in 1953. John and Shirley were longtime active members of Sharon Country Club and enjoyed the friendships made there. In addition to playing golf, he enjoyed reading and working out. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to the Coast Guard Cottage in Hillsboro, FL. His most cherished times were spent surrounded by his family and friends.
John is survived by his children, Thomas J. Curry and his wife Shelly of Mansfield, John F. Curry and his wife Deborah of Attleboro, Jayne M. Curry of Stoughton and Michael G. Curry and his wife Marie of Mt. Airy, MD. He was the grandfather of Tiffany, Joshua, Alexander, Shawn, Ryan, Matthew and Justin Curry. He was the brother of the late Joseph, William and James Curry and Jean Flanagan, and is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, October 14 from 9:30-10:30 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.st.jude.org.
