John D. Emmott, Retired Stoughton Firefighter and longtime resident of Dedham, age 78, died at Lakewood Ranch Hospice in Bradenton, Florida on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Son of the late Philip and Dorothy (Gookin) Emmott, he was born in Boston and raised in Needham. John graduated from Needham High School, Class of 1964. He then joined the U.S Navy and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Communications Yeoman 3rd Class. He continued his service for several years in the Navy Reserves. After serving in the Navy, John was a firefighter with the Town of Stoughton from 1978 until his retirement in 1998. He was a resident of Stoughton for 25 years before residing in Dedham for the past 30 years. He enjoyed playing hockey, skiing, boating and spending time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Sandra Cohen as well as his daughters, Leah M. Walker and her husband Hakim of Attleboro, Heather A. McEvoy and her husband Mark “Joe” of Plainville, Melissa D. Emmott of North Attleboro and Kelsi L. Falconer of Sarasota, FL and his grandchildren, Alyssa, Jacob and Joseph. He is also survived by his former wife, Gail Emmott, a sister, 2 brothers and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters.
A Graveside Service will be held from the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne on Thursday, December 11 at 10:45 AM. Celebration of Life will be held at Halligan's Bar and Grill 79 East St. North Attleboro MA 02760 on January 3, 2026 from 12-4 pm.
