John E. Francis

John E. Francis, 54, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 8, 2023, after being stricken ill at his work. Born in Boston, son of the late Richard J. and Ruth E. Francis, he was raised in Dorchester, educated at St. Gregory’s, and a 1987 graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in the North End.  In 1995, John married Susan A. McHugh, they spent the last 30 years together raising their beloved children.  Prior to recently moving to New Bedford, he lived in Sandwich for over 10 years and had lived in Brockton for many years. He worked as a Custodian for New Bedford Public Schools for the past few months after working for several years at Allen Harvey Home Improvement in Falmouth. Previously, John worked as a Pressman for the Boston Globe for many years. He was a member of Pressman’s Local 3 and the Teamsters Local 25.  John enjoyed fishing and hunting and looked forward to his hunting trips to Maine and Pennsylvania every year.  He was generous with his time and talents and was always happy to help both family and friends with projects around the home.  John enjoyed spending time with his friends and his dogs, but he was the happiest when he was surrounded by his family.

In addition to his wife Susan A. (McHugh) Francis of New Bedford, he is survived by his children, John E. Francis (Brockton FD) of Brockton, Michael P. Francis and his longtime partner Jenna Trulson of Abington, Kyle J., Nicole E., and Courtney R.  Francis, of New Bedford and Barnstable.  He was the grandfather of Caleb, Brennen, Laylah, and Rilynne. John was the brother of Richard C. Francis, (Ret. Chief, Brockton FD) and his wife Mary of Middleboro, Jo-Ann M. Batakis and her husband Richard of Brockton, William A. Francis and his wife Barbara and Carolyn R. Francis all of Stoughton, Elizabeth C. Burow and her husband Charles of Westborough, Christopher J. Francis and his wife Kristen of Weymouth. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton, on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 7 PM with Visiting Hours prior from 4-7 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Angell Memorial Hospital Donate Now • MSPCA-Angell350 S Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02130.
