John Sheldon Hampton, age 78, passed away on May 14, 2023, surrounded by his family after a long battle with dementia. He was the husband to Mady Hampton for 57 loving years. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late Dolena (Kinslow) and Peter Hampton and was proud of his Canadian roots. He moved from Canada in 1956 at the age of 12 with his family. They put roots down in Stoughton and then, in 1977, he and Mady moved to Avon where they lived for over 40 years, he and Mady raised their family together in their home where their friends and family enjoyed many summers together. He built his business, Energy Plus, from the ground up, and made a lasting impact teaching a younger generation of upcoming HVAC technicians by sharing his work ethic and vast knowledge and experience. He eventually retired after more than 25 years in business. He enjoyed going to the casino, working in his yard, and taking care of his home, loved the ocean and going to the beach. He also had a love of music that included his favorites Harry Bellefonte and Elvis Presley. He was a handyman, always building things, but Sheldon’s proudest accomplishment was being a devoted Husband, Father and Papa. If you asked Sheldon how he was, he would always reply with that infectious smile that he was “fine and dandy”.
In addition to his wife Mady, he is survived by his children Suzanne Rakutis and her husband Paul of Avon, Michelle Mendonca and her husband John of Mattapoisett, Melissa Chicoine and her husband Kevin of Middleboro and Gregory Hampton and his wife Vivien of Belchertown. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Hampton and his fiancé Brynne, Zachary Rakutis, Tyler Rakutis and his wife Kellie, Cassandra Doherty, Cody Rakutis, Kyle Rakutis and his girlfriend Lyndsey, Courtney Zurwaski and her husband Ryan, Jillian Mendonca and her boyfriend Nick, Tessa Mendonca, Morgan Mendonca, Sydney Mendonca, Isa Hampton and Eben Hampton. He was the great-grandfather to Brayden, Brody, Charlie, Emmy, and Rosie. He is also survived by his brothers, Peter, and Tom Hampton, as well as his stepsisters Carol, Charlene, and the late Eileen, and was preceded in death by his Stepfather Charles Balcer. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
