John Charles Kime, 88, a resident of Lakeville, died peacefully at home on Monday, October 17, 2022.  He was the husband of Jane Ann (Kilgallen) Curran-Kime and the late Andria (Peacock) Kime.  John was the father of Kathleen S. Kime of Greer, SC and the late John C. “Chuckie” Kime, Jr.  Son of the late Robert W. and Anne (Roach) Kime, he was born in Boston (01/07/1934) and raised in Charlestown. 

He was a graduate of Boston English Latin School (1953) and Boston College (1964).  John was a Private 1st Class serving in the U.S. Marine Corps (1954-56) during the Korean War.  He resided in Stoughton for 30 years then Sandwich for 14 years before moving to Lakeville 5 years ago.  He was the owner of Servpro serving Stoughton and Avon for 20 years until his retirement 25 years ago.  Prior to that he was the swim and dive coach at the YMCA in Boston and West Roxbury High School.

John was known for his love of the water.  Since boyhood he spent many hours in the swimming pool and any open body of water.  As a young man he traveled nationally competing in swimming and diving competitions.  Once he retired, he was able to jump back in the water competing in the Masters Swimming League.

He was actively involved in the Catholic church, first as an altar and choir boy; and, later as an adult a Eucharistic Minister, Marriage Enrichment Instructor, Prayer Group Leader, CCD teacher, and CYO leader.  

He and his first wife, Andria were very involved in founding and leading the SAEC (Stoughton Association for Exceptional Citizens).  As time wore on, he became involved with the Stoughton Council on Aging.  Other interests included telling jokes and stories, following Boston/New England sports teams, singing, playing the harmonica, gardening, cooking, traveling, and the great outdoors.  John was well-known for BIG bear hugs.

He was the youngest brother of nine: survived by Katherine “Kay” Eaton, and predeceased by: Margaret Blouin, Anne Fyler, Myrtle Rice, Mary “Mae” Cavallo, Robert “Bob” Kime, Daniel “Dan” Kime, Katherine “Kay” Eaton and Sarah A. “Sally” McGonigle.  And, he (a.k.a. "Uncle Jackie") is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their children.

In addition to Kathleen and Chuck, John was step-father to Michael Curran and his wife Karen of Plymouth and Thomas Curran and his wife Erica of East Freetown.  He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Chris, Katie, Sam, Dan, and Tim.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich on November 18, 2022 at 11:00.  Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
