John D. McInerney, 81, a retired Lieutenant of the Boston Fire Department, died Monday, February 13, 2023 after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the husband of 47 years of Marie L. (Ivanoski) McInerney. Known as “Maca” or “Jackie” to friends, he was born in Boston, was raised and educated in South Boston and was a graduate of South Boston High School. He was a longtime member of the Army Reserves. John began his career in the Boston Fire Department in July 1972 and served in Engine 33 and Ladder 15 in the Back Bay and later served on Engine 2 and Ladder 19 in South Boston. He retired as a Lieutenant in July of 2005. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 718 in Boston. In his free time, he enjoyed working in his yard, watching the Patriots and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Diane M. McInerney and her husband Michael Murphy, MD of Easton, John R. McInerney and his fiancé Arthur Imperatore of NJ, Christopher J. McInerney and Linda M. McInerney and her husband Michael Papadourakis, all of Stoughton. He was the brother of the late Ann Marie Whalen and the loving “Mackie” to his twin grandchildren Finnegan and Fiona Murphy. He is also survived by his beloved dog Bubki and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, W. Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
