John L. Vilk, 97, died Friday, March 13, 2026, at the VA Hospital in Brockton, after a short period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of 68 years of Alice “Tootie” (Elliott) Vilk. Born in Stoughton, son of the late Herbert L. and Ellen (Greene) Vilk, he was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and attended Stoughton Schools. John was a proud veteran of the US Air Force, serving in the Korean Era from 1950-1954. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Stoughton and began working as a carpenter, a career he enjoyed for many years. John worked for Carpenter’s Union in Boston, until his retirement many years ago. In his retirement, he enjoyed aviation, gardening, birding, and loved being outdoors.
In addition to his wife, Alice “Tootie” Vilk of Stoughton, John is survived by his two children, John L. Vilk, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Middleboro and Joan Guarino and her husband David of Bridgewater. He is survived by 4 grandchildren, Samantha Nygard and her husband Damien of Carver, Tech Sergeant Mark Guarino, USAF and his wife Staff Sergeant Brittany Guarino USAF of NM, Rebecca Morin and her husband James of Taunton, and Jessica Vilk of Middleboro. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Brayden, James David, Nathan, MacKenzie, and Trent. John was predeceased by his brothers Herbert Jr “Junie” Vilk and William Vilk.
Private Family Services were held with interment at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
