Jose Marcelino Sousa

Jose Marcelino Sousa, 74, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.  He was the husband of Inelda (Rosanina) Sousa for 48 years.  Born and raised in Fazenda, Flores, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late João Augusto and Palmira (Goncalves) Sousa.  Jose served in the Portuguese Army and remains close with several of his Army friends to this day.  He moved to Stoughton in 1974.  He worked at several different businesses in the area.  Jose was a member of the Sociedade Filarmómica De São João in Stoughton and a former member of Stoughton Fish & Game.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising turkeys, collecting hats and birdwatching, especially hummingbirds but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and taking trips back to Portugal.

In addition to his wife, Jose is survived by his children, Robert R. Sousa and his fiancé Shayna Lehrer of Brockton and Roseann R. Freitas and her husband João Stoughton as well as his grandchildren, J.C. Freitas, Dakota Bourne, Francisco Freitas, Caylee Sousa, Julius Sousa, Sebastian Freitas and Lily Lehrer.  He was the brother of Helena Costa and Palmira Sousa both of Stoughton, Filomena Fraga of Flores and the late João Sousa.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, June 27 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM.  Visiting Hours Monday from 4-7 PM.  Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
