Jose H. Serpa

Jose H. Serpa, a longtime resident of Stoughton, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024. He was the beloved husband to Odelta M. (Avila) Serpa for 64 loving years. Born in Lajedo, Flores, Acores, Portugal, he was raised and educated in Flores, settling in the U.S. in his younger years. Jose worked as a glass cutter and shop worker at Shaw Glass in Easton for many years before retiring. A member of St. John’s Bandhouse and Club Luis De Cameos, both out of Stoughton, he was involved within the community for several years. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and fishing.

In addition to his dear wife Odelta, Jose is survived by his son Jose A. Serpa of Stoughton. He was the brother to Ernestina Jorge of California, Albertina Mendonca of Lowell, Luis Escobar of Portugal, and was predeceased by his siblings Antonio Escobar, Frank Serpa, and Maria Gomes. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Wednesday August 28th from 8-10 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. Interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jose’s memory may be made to the Marissa Ramos Memorial Foundation, 36 Pearl Street Place, Stoughton, MA 02072.
